Albert Mekking, Project Manager/ Sr Consultant CMC Albert Mekking joined Kinesis Pharma in January 2007 as Project Manager /Senior Consultant Chemistry, Manufacturing & Control. He has broad experience in different roles within the (bio)pharmaceutical industry (pharmaceutical product development, quality control, quality assurance, clinical manufacturing and project management).
Previously, he was Senior Scientist, Project Leader and Manager Clinical Manufacturing at OctoPlus Technologies and Development, Leiden, The Netherlands (1997-2006). Albert Mekking gained a broad experience in development of protein drug delivery systems based on microspheric particles, formulation development, cGMP manufacturing of medicinal products based on proteins, peptides and small molecules. As Senior Scientist at OctoPlus Technologies he was responsible for the development of a protein drug delivery system based on a polymer. As a Project Leader he was involved in the development of more than 20 products with different formulation forms (coated capsules, mouthwash, liposomal forms, nasal forms, pulmonal forms, small molecule, peptide and protein parenterals).
From 1995 to 1997 he was responsible for the analytical validation of a monoclonal antibody product as Manager Quality Control at Centocor (a J&J company) in Leiden, the Netherlands. During this period he was involved in national and international inspections (FDA). He started his carreer as Protein Scientist/Manager Analytical Biochemistry at Chiron (previous EuroCetus) Amsterdam, The Netherlands (1989-1995). He had to set up the analytical laboratories at Chiron in 1989 and was involved in setting up the GcLP quality systems at Chiron Amsterdam.
He received his master’s degree from the University of Utrecht with a major on carbohydrate chemistry of glycoproteins (Bio-Organic Chemistry). He is co-inventor of a US and a European patent on formulation of two recombinant proteins. He is co-author of several articles in journals and pharmaceutical books.
